My 93 SSEI and I say hello from Maine

Post by tar6569 »

Hello,

I found this forum recently and have been reading up on the various threads. I thought I'd join and participate too. My first car was a Blue 92 SE, which I bought my senior year in HS off the local Ford dealer's wholesale lot for a mere $250 because it needed various work. My father and I fixed it up in our garage and I drove it for several years before it started to get rusty on the underside and sold it. I loved that car and it was fast!

I was driving a green 96 Olds 88 but finally took that one off the road due to rust in the body and reinforcements under back seat.

My current car is a Green 93 SSEi with 131K miles. Found it on Craigslist for only $500. I have owned it since early 2009 and am the 3rd owner. I will post some pictures of it this evening in the "Your Ride" section. Besides gutting the interior and giving it a good cleaning, the only major work it has needed were the replacement of both heads due to cracks (previous owner ran regular in it) and the ABS was really quirky (activating at random times) but a new ABS box under the dash seems to have fixed that.

Welcome to the club!

The heads aren't a normal weak spot on 3800's. Where were the cracks?

Welcome!

I'm guessing the cracks were in the combustion chambers, due to 87 being run in it. I'm surprised you didn't pop pistons, TBH...
Bye Bye:

The cracks were between the combustion chambers. I was really lucky. In addition to the cracks, a piece broke off of the exhaust valve but did not cause any internal damage. I'm writing out a post in the show your car area and I will post a few pics of the head job, including one showing the damaged exhaust valve.
