What could be the cause of my 2001 SSEi having hard steering (no power assist) only when turning right? Turning left is fine, and every once in a while when turning right it works fine. Is it the pump, the steering rack or something else? I've been putting up with this for quite a while, and I'm finally getting sick of it and want to do something about it.
Thanks!!

my '95 Bonneville also had this as well as many other older GMs I've driven. Seems to be at its worst when turning right AND braking. Hit the gas and power returns. Not what you want to be doing though.

Re: Hard Steering
It really could be either. My friend's car had that problem and replacing the power steering pump solved it.
