OK so I went to go have my new amp installed and they say ok all set and I drive off. After listening to it through a couple songs yet again same problem as before. On A brand new AMP!!!!
So I take it back to where I get it installed and they are like well it is your factory radio system made by Bose making distortion to your amp. I sat in the parking lot letting it play for about 20 mins. and it did it twice on Minimum settings for amp and the radio isnt even that loud!
So the guy still insisting it is the radio and more power is always better in an amp, but the guy that did the actual instalation said my subs are only rated at maybe 250 max and keep in mind this was a Rockford Fosgate 500.1 amp (arent these supposed to be good?)
So I sit in the parking lot letting it play and yet again still keeping "clipping" as they call it. I wondered if we should put a smaller amp in to try and work with the subs so it is not over powering them so much. They instisted that any amp I put in with those subs and that factory radio would do the same thing.
It was like trying to pull teeth trying to get them to give my money back. I asked to have them uninstall the amp they were like oh we will have to charge you for labor on that. Keep in mind I already spent 300.00 on this and then they were going to charge me for a labor fee to get it uninstalled. So I said I would take it home take the four screws off the amp where they mounted it and put it back in the box and bring it back. I did get my money back thank God so all in all this experience was not very good spending all afternoon arguing with a car audio place and having them make me try to spend more money on an aftermarket radio i didnt have.....
^^^^ok so this is the problem. I have a 1998 Pontiac Bonniville w Bose Factory radio. I had the amp installed the installer that did the work insisted it was the Bose radio and Bose just made them cheaply for cars and put the Bose name on it. LOL.... Anyone ever have this problem before? I have never had so many problems with installing an amp and having it overheat and clip in and out so much in my life! All im trying to power with it is 2 12" Pioneer IMPP 450w speakers! Any help greatly appreciated....

I my opinion, factory bose is not that high of quality. Pretty crappy actually. That said, how did they wire it? Did they bypass the factory amp? If they are running the output of the factory bose amp to the input of your rockford amp, that may be causing a lot of problems. If not, then I would say the factory radio could be causing your troubles? Factory bose systems from 98 are not that good. Don't get me wrong, they were a nice factory system...in 98...12 years ago. By todays standards, they are equal to a wal-mart special.

Yeah I have posted this in 2 forums. Guess it is time for an upgrade on the HU. I was thinking about the Kenwood mp345. Any other suggestions? Thanks... As far as the wiring is concerned I wired the unit myself and just ran the remote from yellow + battery switched and I ran LOC in the rear at the speakers.

I would suggest an upgrade also.YoMike wrote:Yeah I have posted this in 2 forums. Guess it is time for an upgrade on the HU.
I think you should check Craigslist and get a HU and a amp for a good price. If you only want new gear, I would look at Pioneer HUs.YoMike wrote:I was thinking about the Kenwood mp345. Any other suggestions?
If you did the wiring then what did the shop do?YoMike wrote:As far as the wiring is concerned I wired the unit myself and just ran the remote from yellow + battery switched and I ran LOC in the rear at the speakers.

Well first they told me my first amp was bad and charged me 100.00 and then they sold me an amp and said they would install it. I already had the wiring in it so all they did was hook up the amp. So it was a big mess after that. Like I said it was like pulling teeth out to get my money back. I had to pull the amp out just to not get charged for labor again.....If you did the wiring then what did the shop do?

I will never buy used radio equipment again. Thats how I got in this mess in the first place. I got burned on 2 amps that supposedly worked.... really all I got was 12" single coil subs in a box... for the price I paid I could have gotten a whole new system for what I already have in this....I think you should check Craigslist and get a HU and a amp for a good price. If you only want new gear, I would look at Pioneer HUs.

I know you feel as if you got a raw deal, but most shops would charge you to trouble shoot your first problem. If you bought an amp from the same shop they would give you a bit of a break, but still charge you to install that amp.YoMike wrote:Well first they told me my first amp was bad and charged me 100.00 and then they sold me an amp and said they would install it. HMMM...don't really know what to say to that other than everyone has to get something for their time and would you rather they sell you low quality gear?YoMike wrote:so I will swear never to go to professional installers again, all they care about is getting the labor and trying to sell you "quality" equipment...
To the OP.
Is there any chance the LL converter is burned out?
How is the LLC hooked up?
Did the amp play when the volume was low?
