rear rattling AND clunking due to rusted body mounts! SOLVED

Post by golfyeti »

Would anyone have a diagram of where the body mounts / bolts are? This is my new focus area on this issue.

TIA

Re: rear rattling connected to body mounts?

Are you basing this off your highway death shake thread? It would be best to keep all the information in the same place.

Are we talking front or rear subframe?

The front has 6 bolts, 2 on the front, 4 on the rear of the subframe.

The rear has 4 bolts, 2 behind the fuel tank and 2 on the framerails.

This a total "RE-EDIT" and subject line update.

Andrew, I thought there might be a connection between the 'low-speed rattle in the rear' and '65-70 MPH shimmy'.

However, after adding a large washer to each bolt on the rusted rear body mounts just under the rear doors, I notice no improvement in the shimmy.....

BUT...

it fixed BOTH my low-speed rattles AND my low-speed clunks!! She's completely quiet again back there and I can't even begin to tell you all how RELEIVED I am!

I can't believe that two 30 cent washers just released me from miles and miles of teeth clenching city driving.

Thanks goes to Peej: =D>
