Lost Keys - Trunk Access
I lost my Keys and need to get into my Trunk :sad5: . The button Trunk Access doesn't work either.
Is there a way to open the Trunk from the inside of it? Do the back seats come out easily?
Also, for a replacement VATS key, I suppose any GM Dealer can get me a new set from just the VIN#?
Thx. -TJ

Re: Lost Keys - Trunk Access
I am curious if they are able to make both keys for you there at the dealer. I wonder if a wiring guru can tell you where the trunk trigger wire is going back to the popper, and you can just hit it with a quick shot of 12 volts and get the trunk open.

Re: Lost Keys - Trunk Access
Can you reach what you need through the rear pass-thru? Unfortunately there isn't a release handle inside the trunk. Even if you remove the back seat, you're not getting a much bigger hole than the pass-thru.
I don't know about the VATS matching.

Where does the truck release wire run thru, and can it be hit with 12v somewhere along it to pop the trunk? I'm guessing the power is cut prior to the trunk release switch, so what it you put power to the wire at the switch?

Re: Lost Keys - Trunk Access
But the trunk button should be easily accessible, and I'm guessing here, but that output of that button may go straight to the release on the trunk latch.

Trunk release button energizes the trunk release relay at the base of the passenger side A Pillar, which then energizes the latch.

I had a locksmith actually make a key for my trunk with no key. It had been lost before I got the car. It wasn't that expensive either.

I've had my GM dealer cut keys for a few of my vehicle's with no key (93 Park avenue, 95 Bonnie, 99 Bonnie and a friends 95 Corvette -just the door key for this one). They have never charged me anything extra for not having a key either.

Re: Lost Keys - Trunk Access
You have to pull the bottom seat first by pushing in the corners and lifting it. then you will see the nuts that are holding it in at the bottom of the seat back. After you remove them you just need to lift the seat up and out -but there is no since in removing it to try to access the trunk... that won't get you in there. The cutout for the access hole is about all the room you have with or without the seat in there.

Does the trunk opener button have an on/off switch inside the glovebox, e.g., so it is turned off for valet parking?1993SSEi wrote:. The button Trunk Access doesn't work either.

Well , I think the big issue is that he doesnt have any key right now. Thus no key on, and no power to the trunk release. Very fine predicament he has created actually.

Re: Lost Keys - Trunk Access
One time I locked my keys in my trunk not paying attention. I keep the lock-out switch in the trunk turned on so the button inside the car doesnt work. After a few minutes of sitting there thinking I went into the woods and got a long branch, pushed my subs around and out of the way and flipped the switch and then I opened my trunk using the switch on the door.
Im not sure if that will work in this situation, as I have noticed with the button on the door that my 92 wont open the trunk unless the car is on, but my 98 will open it without the car on

I was fianlly able to get the Keys from that small access in the rear seat. Used a Broom handle to move crap out of the way then rigged a wire hanger to hook the Key ring. Thanks for everyone's help

Both of my H-bodies have power to the trunk switch when key is off, assuming the lockout switch inside the glovebox is "on."RJolly87 wrote:Well , I think the big issue is that he doesnt have any key right now. I'm reading that the Bonneville doesn't have the valet lockout switch inside the car.

Re: Lost Keys - Trunk Access
The topic author has no valet switch, and needs a key to power the unlock solenoid.
Run a 12v jumper from the battery and remove the trunk unlock switch from the door panel. Touch that wire to one side or the other of the switch until it unlocks. Now go retrieve your keys. You can use either a long scrap wire or a jumper cable.
