Shifter coming appart

Post by ramair68 »

Put her in gear the other day and the black button you push on the Automatic shifter to switch gears came flying out. Called stealer and what do you know there's no button/knob available, - the whole thing needs to be exchanged as a unit. Any suggestions of a do it yourself fix? All I would need is the knob portion itself, I believe it clips into the unit, clip on mine seems broken.

Seems like when GM switched to the black button on the shifter they lowered the quality. Two GXP owners have had theirs break too, but I've never seen an 00-03 button break. You will have to replace the shifter knob (the whole unit), either with a new one or a used one. I don't know of any companies that make a button, and if the clip is broken, unless you can find it and glue it back on or something, i think you're going to need a new shifter knob. Look on e-bay, e-mail Morad Parts Co, and if nothing else, get one from the dealer.

Wait, the dealer is saying they would need to exchange the entire shifter unit?? I'd call another dealer, and see if they can get you just a knob.

Get ahold of harofreak00. He probably has 2 or 3 laying around.

All of Andrew's have gray buttons, which will work, but might look a bit goofy. 04-05's got black buttons where 00-03 had gray, on every button in the car.
