Seafoam!!!!

So,

Did Seafoam yesterday, about 1/3 the can into vacuum, the other 2/3 into gas tank. Certainly made a noticeable difference in idle (helped smooth it out), exhaust note at idle is more throaty and refined (back to where it should have been) and response time in taking off (acceleration) is far better. Everything feels better than it was, that's for sure..

The funny thing, it wasn't this "massive cloud" of smoke everyone made it out to be, it smoked a bit from the tail, and with it in the gas today at a light it puffed a little bit as I was sitting...but it's not some cloud like I was thinking/hearing.

Anyone else have good experiences with this stuff? Score 1 for me. Going to change plugs & wires in a week now...

Also doing the vacuum lines seems to have helped overall as well with Trans shift consistency, we also smoked the lines before to check for leaks and found none (thankfully).

Everyone has different clouds.

If you run that Amsoil fuel additive, it would explain why your cloud wasn't massive, same, and double if you use top tier fuel.

Neglected cars that run cheap gas, etc, tend to have the largest clouds of carbon burnoff. I know the cloud I got from my 89 was one of the worst...it lasted a good 20 mins, even with driving.

Couple of points of interest here. Most times, when there are massive clouds of smoke, we usually suck the entire can through the vacuum lines, then kill the engine right as it finishes, restart in 15 minutes, and cue the massive cloud. Others lacking carbon buildup have observed less smoke than those who really needed it also.

Yeah like John said, I use the AMSOIL Performance Improver and most of the time use only gas stations registered with Top Tier Fuel group, also, I run 93 octane every few months that has more detergents in it from my understanding as well...so yeah. Good reasons why my cloud wasn't as big as some others...

The 93 wont have anymore detergents in it. There should be no reason to run any fuel additive in that car either.

To slightly hijack this thread. I'm going in for a tranny fluid change tonight and I was thinking of putting a can of Seafoam Transtune in, But I don't know when to put it in? What should I do?

Some Premium gasoline, dependent on the brand, do have more detergents.

Also, a fuel additive can be very useful, it's not some grand gimmick, many have used them, many have great results. If I stock with top tier gas, technically, and I say technically, I should never need an additive, but unfortunately that doesn't always happen and we don't live in a "technically" world, we live in reality.

*edit: As far as your Trans issue, I can't say anything for the seafoam for Trans, I did a filter/fluid change/drop and added a bottle of the Lucas Trans stuff because of the excessive mileage on my Trans and how it was starved for fluid for a bit. Been working mint since.

Would it hurt the tranny if I run the fluid level a tad high w/the seafoam in it?

I'd run it for 100 miles before getting the fluid changed, and no it won't hurt if it's a bit high. SeaFoam transtune is great stuff, but give it enough time to run around a bit so you get your money's worth out of it. I did, and it helped A LOT.

Dang then. If I was delivering tonight then the fluid change I'd put it in now....

Should I just put it in with the fresh fluid and drive it like normal until the next fluid change?

Nah, I wouldn't leave it in that long. Whatever it cleans out gets stuck in the filter and you don't want it to clog up.

If you've got to do it tonight then go ahead and put it in now and get it changed. It makes the most difference in the first few miles anyway. The rest is just bonus. Top it off with some Lucas TransFix + Dexron VI fluid and you'll be set, and amazed at the difference it will make.

I went ahead and poured it in at 5:10 and drove it about 20 miles from my place to Woodman's (local warehouse place where gas is 20+ cents cheaper than everywhere else) to my mechanics place. Spent about 45 minutes altogether including idling time.

Whens the next time I should change the tranny fluid?

EDIT: Has anyone else noticed how much Seafoam has gone up in price lately? about 8-9 months ago it was anywhere from $7.19 to $7.99 and now its $8.97 to $10.49 now. wtf?

Dexron III, anywhere from 10k to 20k miles depending on how it lasts. Dexron VI you can run a little longer.
