connector on rear wheel hub

Post by harofreak00 »

I am trying to fix the SSS light on my 00. Tech2 says I have an intermittently failing LR hub. I got one from a junk yard and noticed the connector on the back was different from mine. It only had "2" tabs on the side, instead of the one on the top to work with my connector.

FYI, this is the connector I am working with.

You can see how this style connector only touches the middle tab.

So back to the problem. The one I got from the yard only had 2 tabs on it, so I bought it back and got one with the "3" tabs. I replaced the hub and found this WSS to be completely dead. This hub is worse than my other one.

I called the yard and asked if they had another. All they have are the "2" tab connector styles. He said his computer shows that my 00 Bonneville should take the "2" tab connector style. All 4 of my WSS connectors are this same style.

I called Ed Morad to see what he had. He only has "2" tab connectors also.

Do I really need to call all around to different yards to find the "3" tab connectors, or am I missing something?

Harofreak,
Looking at the Alldata site for the 2000 Bonneville and researching the wiring diagram for the wheel speed sensors on the rear hubs, it looks like there are only two wires going to the sensor, one black and one white. Do you have access to the Alldata site? If not, I will try and figure out how to copy the wiring diagram and attach it in this site.

Keep in mind I am talking about the "TABS" on the connector, not the amount of wire "TERMINALS"

Don't mind the wire colors on that picture I posted. Mine are white/black as they are supposed to be. It was just a connector I sniped from something else, the point was just to show the type of connector.

I do not have access to AllData, but I do have the FSM. It shows the connector and it looks just like mine.

Does it click in and hold? I wouldnt worry about it as long as it functions properly. Mine are only 2 also I believe. I had a heck of a time with my 94 Yukon. Had an O2 sensor connector that only went with 96 and newer. An EGR purge solenoid connection that was from 88. So if the shoe fits I wouldnt worry about all the foofa on the outsides. Cant tell you how many FORD connectors, used to work at a Ford Dealer for 4 years, were diff shaped on the outside but they clicked in/held and worked just fine.

No, it doesnt click, there is no tab there. That was the whole point of this thread.

Had one shipped from a junkyard about an hour away. It had the 3 tabs, but once I installed it, I am still getting a temperamental loss of signal. These WSS's are a finicky thing! I'm contemplating just getting a new one.

Maybe try cleaning the terminals with some kind of wire brush? Just my $.02

Terminals have been cleaned, corroded terminals have been replaced, and dielectric grease has been applied all around.

I can understand how some think it may fit. From the pictures you have it looks like it should fit.

Can you please take a pic of the connector near the one on the car.

Have you checked the wiring while sitting still and having someone wiggle the wires on the car side, maybe you have a short?
