Pickles- 96 SSEi long time no see

Post by zuper8 »

Even though it's going to rain all week, I had a unique opportunity to detail Pickles in the garage at Mark's work. This might have to be Pickles' last polish, I don't think there is much clear left and there are really deep old scratches that my porter cable will never get.

Of course it was only clouds today... seriously anytime I detail a car the clouds come and make sure I can't get any good reflective shots lol.

My trusty Pickles... hard to believe I've had the car for more than 4 years now. Best. Bonneville. ever. I can't imagine driving anything else.

Just rolled 312,000 miles, I am on the fence about repainting the pass. fender and front/rear bumpers. They are really an eyesore but I don't know if I should do it, I would just want to paint the whole car and then that might be crazy.

Washed with Meg's gold class
Wheels/ tips polished with Turtle Wax chrome polish (you laugh... it is actually a pretty nice product, decent at removing corrosion too)
Clayed using Mother's clay bar
Menz SIP w/ orange pad
Menz SF w/ white pad
Wolfgang Finishing Glaze 3.0 w/ gray pad
2 coats of Wolfgang Fuzion Estate Wax
Meguiar's gold class tire gel

Will get some sunny pics soon to show off the effect of the glaze, I was really impressed. brought a lot of color and life back to those *shoot* bumpers.

Looks amazing Rachael! Those swoops look perfect on that body style too, should have been a factory wheel for those years.

Looks good. Keeping it clean and a good coat of wax may make it last a little longer than you think.

Looks great Rachael!!!!

I'm not laughing at your choice of wheel polish, it and some appropriately used steel wool restored the swoopies on my 00 SSEi from pitted and crappy to shiny and beautiful.

When I bought the car it had 240K and the engine had just been replaced with a 150Kish unit, I blew that motor up 30K miles later by driving like an idiot and beating the crap out of it.... I put a motor in with 109K at 279K. I am a litter wiser now and I think this one will last much longer :) The trans had a Goodwrench sticker on it when I bought it (whoot). I have done nothing to it but change the fluid and filter a few times.

I have gone through and replaced many normal wear items on the car over the years.... not necessarily because I needed to, but because I wanted to. It has been a very reliable car and most of the actual issues were very minor. It handles, brakes, and goes like a car with far fewer miles.
BonneMe wrote:Drop it 2"... Then you win Pontiac Bonneville Club (if we forget 95naSTA)
Haha no plans to drop it but thanks!! and yes, Mike's car is the god of all Bonnevilles, no one can touch that!

LOVE your car! That style of SSEi in green, black, or blue, are my favorites, especially dressed up with the clear corners and 17's. It looks fantastic - I would love to have one just like it.

I could go for one of those too probably - I've spotted 2 of them for sale in the last couple of years, and they do stand out!
