1st hand wash

Post by Ghosthawk »

Weather finally took a break for a day, so I broke out the bucket and gave Bonne her first hand wash here at home. Then I had to snap a few pics.

Then it was time for some needed dress-up items...

The "tramp stamp" is a decal. Ryan at Flaming Decals made them, and a great job at a right price I might add.

I'm quite sure there is a clay bar in my future, along with some other things when the weather breaks for warmer temps.

Window tint is a touchy thing here in VA. My Grand Prix had a light window tint installed when I bought it, and it did help the a/c a lot during those really hot days. I'm not sure of the legal limit but I do know a lot of guys get ticketed for it here. I know of two co-workers that had dark tint installed and then promptly had to have it removed. I'm sure I will be considering it at some point, but there are other mods I'm giving higher priority right now.

http://www.tintlaws.com/laws/VA/

That's VA's laws on window tint. 50% on the front windows, 35% on the rears, and not more than 20% reflective. That's the law, and they can't fine you for it.

Here's another shot that shows off her "tramp stamp" LOL...
Image

I think a light window tint would look good...along with some bright twin outlet exhaust tips.

I also keep looking at these on eBay...18x8.5, 38mm offset, wrapped up in some 255/45/18s over some drilled/slotted rotors and red calipers. Then I could keep the sawblades for winter wheels (and she would look hot year round)

Man you make me jealous. I'm itching to hand wash my car, but its below freezing here lol. Car looks great. Like the tattoo on the back. The rims look good also, they will set off the look of your car IMO. Those Rims & some tint & your car will be beautiful for the summer.

I'm not hot on those wheels. I like the classy styling of these cars, and those aren't great. I like 5 spoke wheels on these cars. Plus, I think 255's will rub. I'd do 235/50R18. Plenty wide and a nice sidewall for good ride that will help prevent curbage and potholes killing the wheels. Also, drilled rotors aren't wise either, as they can crack between the holes and explode in extreme cases, causing total brake failure. Just my $.02.

My wife snapped this night shot while we were out to dinner this evening, in front of the old Pontiac dealer that had been in old downtown Petersburg since I was a kid. They are Mitsubishi & GMC now but the showroom awning hasnt been changed.

Image

As you can see in the above shot, I removed the SLE badges and added the other decals. I'm also considering a small accent decal to go alongside like a nameplate. Here is the design I have been toying with (it still needs some cleaning up)

Image

I'm actually a big fan of five spoker wheels myself, but sometimes a lace euro design catches my eye. I think I like the clean appearance of these wheels since the have no allen bolt heads or other doo-dads. I was thinking 255s since that was the listing I saw for the GXP applications. I figured being the same body style they would still fit.

I've heard that warning many times concerning drilled rotors, but I've had them on three different cars, and the ones on my GP saw almost 100kmiles (and some hard use) and never had one crack yet. Maybe a factor under racing conditions, but not street use I dont believe, especially if you get a good quality rotor. The difference in stopping power is huge, and well worth the addition to me. But thanks for the input anyways :)

The size I listed above is the stock GXP size. Most e-bay sellers don't know jack, TBH. I know silverbullet runs 255's, but IIRC they rub a little while turning.

Just from personal experience, don't don't don't run 255/45/18s. They leave a HUGE gap in the wheel well and don't even look remotely right. Plus your mileage will suffer greatly and your speedo will be way off.

I am glad I'm not the only one that was thinking "Hey, that Bonnie has a 'tramp stamp'".

But in all seriousness, I think it's a cool touch. I don't think I've seen something like that before.

The decal design was one I melded together from several clip art sources, so it is an original design. (sort of) but I didnt start with any variation of the Firebird logo. Clean sheet of paper, and then various pieces until I got something I liked.

The Rountree showroom is on Bollingbrook St. They used to have a used car location on Wythe, but its been closed down.

btw, I ordered up the name badge decals from Ryan last night, so they should be on the way soon.

Thanks for the pics and input on the tires...that is a very big visual difference. How wide are the rims youre running and what kind of offset?
(Sharp looking ride I might add) I've got a set of black/polished Stern rims on my Sebring vert...and I love' em when they're clean! But I'm sure I'll stick with chrome on Bonne. Here's pic of the vert...

She looks amazing! I love the decal design too. I can't say I like it in place of the SLE badges but I like the one on the rear!

Those wheels gonna' look hawt! :thumbleft:

As far as tint, I had my windows tinted to 35% all around. I don't like the two-tone deal and just 50% didn't seem worth it IMO. So far I haven't had any issues with the law as far as window tint goes. But I'm in Williamsburg/Virginia Beach, I'm not sure how strict they are in the Richmond area.
