Storage *WARNING*

Post by l67poweredlss »

As some of you may know I bought a G8 GT back in March and put my 97' Oldsmobile LSS into long term storage shortly thereafter. The facility is an old chicken barn with dirt floors. Now i'm sure some of you know what i'm about to say, but this post is for those who don't, so read carefully. Don't ever EVER store your Bonneville or any other car you may have as a prized possession on a dirt floor. It will TOTAL the car. When I brought the car into storage the undercarriage was MINT. Now, its so rusted that i'm scared to drive the *dang* thing. This is in only seven moths mind you. I just spent $1100 to have every *dang* brake line replaced. What really pisses me off is this a$$hat that owns the place knew I wanted to keep that car mint and knew *dang* well what would happen but didn't tell me. Honestly, i'm considering having my insurance total it out, its THAT bad.

The motto of this story is penny wise dollar stupid. Do NOT be cheap. The storage unit was $110 every 6 months. Cement floored climate controlled units go for around $165 per month or $990/ 6 months. Whereas I spent $1210 with storage plus brake lines. Stupidity-1 me-0.

Yeah, parking a car in grass for extended periods of time will do that too. The moisture comes up and rusts out your car.

What part of the country are you in? Sucks to hear that about your car.

The brakes shouldn't have rusted that quickly. If the shop you spent that money at used half-decent line it should take a few years to rust. Not to mention you can get brake line pretty cheap, or snag some pristine lines off a junkyard car (or have someone do it for you).

Learn from the mistakes of others, that way when you mess up you can do so in new and interesting ways.
