Hey guys!

97 Buick Lesabre Custom, 3800II NA

So I am pretty sure the subframe bushings on my car are shot. The rubber is all torn up on them, and makes a creaking clunking noise... I confirmed it was them by driving the car up on ramps, and having someone turn the steering wheel, while I was under it, the creaking is coming from them. Considering I can feel the clunk below my feet, and the tie rod ends + cv-axle has been replaced on that side, this is what I am left with as my conclusion.

I have not got a good look at the front one yet, but all 4 rear ones are shot. So I figured I would replace all of them anyways. And I wanna replace everything, bolts, washers, rubber.

My questions to you y'all is, how hard are they to replace? What are the part numbers? And where would be cheapest? I understand they are dealer, or gm-parts direct only.

Thanks everyone!
Claude

AFAIK, they need proper support of the subframe, a large socket, a cheater bar or powerful impact gun, lots of penetrating oil where they're rust-welded to the body, and something to pry the chunks out with.

Please add your location to your profile so we know if you have rust to deal with or not. Thanks!

haha, yeah we have rust. I am in Indiana, not as much as NY though, because they sometimes use sand here. Car spent it's life here and NW Ohio by carfaxes reckoning. I moved here last year from Buffalo, I know how to deal with rusty things underneath. Torch and penetrating oil are your friends!

95naSTA, thank you so much for that link, exactly what I needed!

wait, is it just me, or is something not adding up here:
http://www.compnine.com/index.php?u=1&y ... rouptype=B

It does not seem their parts list, matches the diagram, and just counting the components does not seem to add up correct. :dontknow:

there are 12 pieces total, some are used in more than one place. order retainers also, you will have some that are shot.

Does this look like the correct shopping list sonoma?:
25536051(2) 6.22 Upper insulator-front
25536050(4) 6.22 Upper insulator-center/rear
14103535(4) 7.32 Lower insulator-front/center
25533991(2) 7.81 Lower insulator-rear

1640188(6) 6.86 Lower retainer
15677731(6) 1.73 Sub-Frame bolt

I found an older thread where you said this to someone else, haha.
Ouch, it will be just short of $300 not including shipping, from gm-parts direct.

25525871 drive-train, and front suspension frame lower insulator, position number 3, blue, requires to order one per side needed.

Oh, it comes with multiple pieces per part number? I had 12 insulators in my cart because it said it required 2, 4, 4, and 2, of each, which made sense 12 altogether.

no, each part # is 1 piece. There are 6 different part #'s, 2 each. another way to think of it, there are 6 different part #'s per side, so you need 2 each to do both sides.

Ok, cool. so 2 of each of the insulators, 6 retainers, and 2 packs of bolts (says there are 5 in a pack, why not 6, idk, haha).

Thanks for the help guys!

Although the price is still at $244, with shipping from gm parts direct, ouch

something is wrong with that shipping, unless they have gotten really bad.

try gmpartshouse.com or shopgmparts.com

It is about $20 cheaper there, with shipping. Otherwise, does the order look correct? I wanna get these ordered, and hopefully installed on Saturday. It would really ruin my day to have the sub frame drop on me, haha.

haha, they said I had the wrong parts chosen, crazzzzzzy man, haha. but I think he is going to help me out, although he said I did not have the caps in my order, which I thought were the retainers I ordered. I am doing a full write up on this once the parts come in, and I get them installed, new part numbers and all.

Thanks guys! This thread will be really helpful, since I just noticed that it's past due time for me to replace my bushings, etc. too. This saves me a bit of research time. 'Preciate it!

Just curious, just how often are these bushings to be replaced? Mine are 19 years old and 268,000 miles. I have looked at them and they appear to be okay. I don't notice any strange noises. The strange noises went away when the struts, springs and strut mounts were replaced. Thanks - BC

If they look fine, I wouldn't do it. Pricey little buggers to replace just as preventative.

Ok, so here is maybe a good test. On the outer lower bushing, poke it with a screw driver, and see if it seems solid all around. if they don't feel hollow, or like the rubber is about to fall off, they are probably good. As long as the retainers are good, water can not really get to the metal core, that combined with my frame rusting through, did mine in I think.

Cheers :beerchug:
