I was going to run an Intense one, but then I had other issues w/ my tranny (not related, but extrememly coincidental), so it got taken out, and I'm kind of stuck right now.

Are the Intense or ZZP kits specific to 4T65-Es? Your 4T60 may require a different kit. I've got a TransGo kit and I like it. Shifts are quick and firm. Unlike my torque nannied G8's A6.

I used the Intense kit and it works very nicely. How do you know that spring is "properly calibrated"? Saying things like that with nothing to back it up can influence others to make the same purchase based solely on your opinion. Upon further investigation the ZZP kit uses shims too so i don't where you got that idea from.

I used the ZZP kit because they don't use shims. They use a properly calibrated spring.

Wo, wo, wo back up the train. What is this? I got a ZZP kit and all it had in it was the shims, nothing else. No springs. Is this new?

By the way I made my own for about $1.00 and it has been working perfectly for about two years, as well as about four or five others that I made and installed in club members cars over here.

I had a ZZP shift kit in my Riviera transmission . I liked it...but after spending $35 on plastic shims I felt a little jipt. I am doing what jared did and making a DIY kit this time for a few dollars. I will upload a link tomarrow to those who are interested.

Both oil volume kits I purchased from ZZP and installed in my 2000 SSEi and 1994 SSEi.
Edit - Sorry wrong topic.. :???:

I disagree to a point. Spring rate and spring force are different ratings of a device. Preloading a spring intentionally can have a desired effect. To that end, there is no advantage or disadvantage to either ZZP's or INTENSE's shift kits or oil pressure kits (the later is inferred in Paul's post above).

Preloading a spring to a certain point, when the spring has predictable and limited travel in operation, does have a positive desired effect.

Both kits I purchased from ZZP and installed in my 2000 SSEi and 1994 SSEi.
Both came with plunger and spring only. No shims!
Both raised the pressure to 80 psi.
The springs are properly calibrated because they don't need shims to artificially preload them.
That is not my opinion, it is fact. [-(

We are talking about shift kits here, not oil pressure kits :bsnicker:

You know this makes a lot of sense now that I think about it and you explain that again. I always wondered why Intense included different springs in their kit. But now I understand the difference since the springs aren't traveling as far it will change the desired effect. However, if you are doing a full kit then wouldn't it eliminate the springs all together? That is why you are shimming it. The springs is then no longer compressed in the accumulator from what I understand after talking to Thomas about this one.

GoldenBullet: This will be for my 89 T-type which I am installing a 98 Park Ave. L67 with the 4T65E-HD (98 SSEi computer and wiring harness, not that it matters here).

I looked at the intense kit it has:
5 custom accumulator piston springs
3 custom flat spacers
8 custom cylindrical spacers
sandpaper to smooth accumulator gasket surface for improved mating
new accumulator gasket
abrasive pad to scuff accumulator bores for increased oil on bore walls
2 new piston seals
new transaxle filter
transmission assembly lubricant
extremely detailed installation instructions with full color images explaining how to inspect your transaxle pan contents, and properly prepare the accumulator cover, accumulator pistons and piston pins.

The ZZP kit has:
Four options of shifting firmness
USA made filter included
Easy to follow instructions
No special tools required

now I am not opposed to a DIY kit especially if it is the same thing for a lot less money, but I do not want to mess up my tranny. So far seems a even draw...$130 or $30 :dontknow:

I do believe you are referring to oil pressure kits and not our shift paks.

Like I said, I've been running my own made shift kit Full Stage bang scretch for over two years now and I have installed about four others made by my hand almost in that long. I make about 60 track passes a year on it. Stock tranny and about 270WHP last couple years. Doing good still. Until this year of course when it will probably take a crap on me (knock on wood)

I take it that you just make your own shims at a specific size... I am not looking for a dash jolting constant tire chirping effect but just quick shifts.
