okay...while driving on a two lane road I have an elderly gentleman going about 20 mph. Speed limit is only 30, but still irritating. He turns on his RIGHT turn signal. He continues to let his RIGHT turn signal blink for what is to me, way too much time for a 20 mph warning. Well, as he comes to an agonizing 10 mph and makes a the motion to turn, I procede to pass him. He suddenly decides he doesnt want to turn right, he turns left. and BAM. my front right corner crashes into his drivers door. Fairly slow speeds, but still some good damage. The worst part is that I had no witnesses and the officer that arrived wrote ME the ticket for improper lane changing. total BS. Ill post some pics in the next day or two.

Situations like this are the worst.
The whole thing is clearly the other driver fault.
Yes you may have went to go around him at a somewhat inappropriate time.
However buddy in the opposing vehicle clearly signaled improperly or changed his mind or whatever.
These are the worst because even if you could prove exactly what happened i doubt that you would be able to get anything for it..

I wish you luckon whatever route you choose to take. Hopefully things work out quickly without much hassle.

That's why you are not supposed to pass a car in the middle of the intersection. The officer is not totally wrong for giving you a ticket.

I believe as a driver you MUST check your mirrors before making a turn. Here in Ontario it's the law to make sure another vehicle isn't overtaking you before making a left turn, what would have happened if it wasn't yourself passing him or an emergency vehicle (police, ambulance, etc.), obviously the other driver wasn't cleary aware of his surroundings when he decided to turn left with you beside him.

it was a 2 lane road, with no intersecting roads when i went to make the pass. The lines were yellow, but dashed. traffic was clear on the opposing lane for half a mile.

edit* i should have clarified.....the right I thought he was going to make was an apartment complex. the left was his driveway.

This is why I took my Grandmother's keys away several years back, and I am all for seniors getting road tested ANNUALLY!!!! Incompetence, inability to make quick decisions, slow reaction, etc.

Sounds like your fault for assuming he was turning right. Also, waiting for him to make the turn would have been an extra 5 seconds or so. It's not worth risking your car over 5 seconds.

Not around here. Wrong signal here is a ticket, failure to signal is a ticket, leaving a signal on without turning is a ticket if you leave it on long enough, you have to signal merges, too, or it's a ticket.
In Ohio, the wrong signal might not have gotten the other driver ticketed, but Wes wouldn't have gotten a ticket for the accident.

In some places, signals are a legally-required courtesy. The only times I've heard of people getting ticketed for signals is when they were in an accident or in connection with another ticket.

sorry guys been lazy with getting the camera. every time i think about it, im covered in grease and dont wanna get nagged for touching the camera with filthy hands......but anywho...I made the decision to just let the buick go. Its kind of sad to me bc ive had it since i was 16, and I loved since the day i got it. And loved it that much more once it had the L67 swap in there. but sometimes you just have to cut your losses i guess.

because my olds is also a 92, the plan is to swap the drivetrain over. should be fairly painless. and the main goal is to have the swap done and ready to drive to the michigan meet. cuz i cant drive my bonne, that would make too much sense, lol. so far have the engine out and on the stand. new thread will be soon to come on that little project. just been short on time, gotta try to fit it all in.

My grandma had to be tested every year for quite a while till she gave up driving just a few years ago. She's 98 now.

The last time I got rear ended by a senior citizen, he left the scene of the accident, and ignored my attempts to get him to pull over. So I got a police officer to go into the resturant where he finally stopped and pulled him out of his Bible study group. His response was "I didn't think I hit you that hard", so he knew he hit us. Only $800 worth of damage to our car, but the fact is he should not be driving after incidents like that.

Rockers are the only "major" mod on the list. Any other mod suggestions that would keep me under $500, throw em at me.

In Ontario, if it's a two lane road and you pass someone on the left who's making a right turn, you'll still get nailed if they do a suprise abort and you hit them.

Regardless, the moral of the story is to always assume other drivers have ZERO idea what they heck they're doing and are always trying to kill you. If I see an old foggy in a car, I always give space. Lots of it.
