Re: Found an Orphan Bonneville

It has a lot to doo with how high the side bolsters are on the seat bottom. You might take a look at a 97+ Park Avenue. You can do all the same mods and the F41 Gran Touring suspension on the Ultra isn't far off of the F41 SSEi suspension.

PLUS, the PA doesn't have the cabin-leak issues of the 00 ...

Dude, you don't NEED a buy-back. The value of those repairs has been MASSIVELY inflated because they're using prices for new parts. Find the panels used and have them paint-matched, and I guarantee you can come in way lower than ICBC's estimate and force them to pay for the repair at a lower cost.

Re: Looks like she's a goner....Edited @ bottom

That car isn't even CLOSE to any legal standard of unfit for the road. Tell them they'll pay for the parts, and for half the cost of paint, or you'll take your chances with hiring a lawyer and suing them for a low appraisal of the car.

Re: F-body Calipers

You can also use the front calipers from the 98-04 STS/SLS and the 98-05 DeVille/DTS, which are 2-piston units basically identical to the GXP units, just without the markings. You can also swap out the distribution block, so the braking force will be properly adjusted, and the STS and DTS use, IIRC ...

87 is all the L36 needs. 89 or higher is just wasting your money. And with the $0.15 markup between grades now, that's a LOT of money to be wasting.

Re: Turbo on a 95 L67

Honestly, if I were building an L67 Fiero, Series 1 or Series 2, I'd drop the auto and put in a stick, either a Getrag 5spd, or the 6spd from the G6.

Fieros with big power are pretty twitchy in the corners, and a badly-timed shift from an auto could cause you serious grief. Unless you're only going ...

Re: MODBUSTERS PRESENTS THE SPECTRE AIRFILTER

Bill, my only point is that there are other filters that perform as well or better than K&N. Why does that stir up such an impassioned defense? Is it a problem if I say that people should do their research before buying a product?

And if the filter doesn't use oil, that alone is a pretty big ...

Re: '98 PA Electrical Issues

For the issue with the mirrors, are you sure that the driver preference is set correctly? IE Driver 1 Vs Driver 2?

Also, start with fuses on the defroster, and then start tracking down where you are not getting power.

If it's not the defroster fuse, the next most likely thing is a bad connection ...

Re: MODBUSTERS PRESENTS THE SPECTRE AIRFILTER

Bill, read your reply and TRY to imagine somebody posted that to you.

Anyway, there ARE independent tests out there, and when one shows that one filter or another filters better AND flows better, I'd call it a better filter. Especially if it's a dry reusable filter, without the worries and negative ...

Re: MODBUSTERS PRESENTS THE SPECTRE AIRFILTER

Over-sensitive much? Did I cry wolf? Did I say K&N weren't good filters? Did I say "DON'T BUY K&N, THEY'RE GARBAGE THAT KILLS ENGINES!!!!"? No, I said that there are better filters available. Does that merit snapping my head off?

Re: MODBUSTERS PRESENTS THE SPECTRE AIRFILTER

I can't remember how far back it was, but somebody here posted up test results from an independent review that showed K&N oiled filters as letting through more and larger particles than a lot of other filters. They're good, but they're not the best.

Also, usage in professional racing is a bad way ...

Re: GN valve springs?

And a quick point to make here: The Series 1 has no parts shared with the GN. The valve springs are incompatible, the lifters are shared with the LSx V8s, the heads are different, the crank is different, the Series 1 uses a balance shaft, even the bell-housing bolt pattern is different. There are no ...

Re: '98 PA Electrical Issues

I have the same problem with the driver's mirror, but mine is an aftermarket replacement. It may be a problem with the position sensors in the servomotors that control it, or it might be a problem with the memory module, which is in the driver's door, under the inner panel. Getting to it is pretty ...

Re: Custom Front Trans Mount: What Hardness?

I'd go with the 80, myself. The Northstar is a pretty smooth motor, not a filling-rattler like the 3800. The little bit of extra vibration shouldn't be all that noticeable.

Re: 15 Beater Cars that Won't Disappoint

I'm a firm believer that a cars dependability is based fully upon it's maintenance and care. I've known people who have had great luck out of Taurus's, and horrible luck out of 3800 powered cars. Sure, every car has it's quirks, but maintenance is key to a dependable car. You just never know how ...

Re: 15 Beater Cars that Won't Disappoint

Yeah reading about the Taurus, they should have been more specific...I know they HAVE to be talking about the 3.0 Vulcan, otherwise they haven't got a single clue about cars. The Ford 3.8 was a notorious head gasket destroyer.

Hate to tell you, but both car were trash. The 3.o engine was much ...

Re: 15 Beater Cars that Won't Disappoint

How the HECK does the Taurus come in ahead of the Bonneville? And they call them RELIABLE? Simple real-world observation should tell anyone that one is FALSE. In spite of more Tauruses being sold, there are FAR more Bonnevilles still on the road from those years. So, if the Taurus outsold the ...

Re: turbo vs supercharged

All of the fastest Bonnevilles were supercharged, FWIW. Bad SSEi was making over 600 WHP with a Kenne Bell or a Whipple, can't remember which one. 8-Ball was running a ported Gen V M90. It can be done, it just takes different mods and a different mind-set. For the OP's purposes I vote he stays with ...

Re: Intense Headers

Intense doesn't make headers, they sell SLP's headers. For the price, you're far better off getting the cheap eBay headers and making them fit...

I disagree VEHEMENTLY with this... I've seen cheap headers rust through, break welds, blow gaskets, or just completely not fit. SLPs are the best ...
