Re: Failed Brakes at Shop

Happened to me Sunday.
Went to drive a Mazda pickup that had sat for a while. Blew out the line which runs from the engine compartment to the rear axle's flexible hse connection.
Weakened due to rust, it let go right by the rear fitting.

Best advice: find one at the local auto parts store which is ...

Re: 1999 bonneville front left transmission mount

Cool little shock attached, that is not on my '93.

I replaced the same location mount twice, because once I got a crapola part that lasted less than a year.

Seems to me that you will need to lift the engine a bit, I believe that I used a crane on top. A jack underneath (with a board to spread the ...

Re: [94 SSE] ABS pump goes on causing engine trouble

I'm recalling something similar with the SSE.
While I don't think it had any effect on the engine's running, the ABS would activate during a normal stop, and even go to "ice mode". Had to use the parking brake a couple of times to keep from running into another car... Scary!
My solution was to pull ...

Re: air conditioning

Yep, sealed systems should not need to be filled unless there is a leak. The Chrysler obviously had one. The Ford van shows wet at a fitting in a lower line underneath the side. I'll be watching that. Adding a bit of 134a and oil annually is cost effective. But if the leak increases, I will get help ...

Re: air conditioning

Whoa whoa whoa, hold up here.

First off, you have your R134a and R12 switched around.

Second, switching refrigerant types all willy nilly without giving thought to the properties and preparations necessary is a bad idea.

Third, this Bonneville was designed for R-134a. Stick with it unless you ...

Re: Daughter’s new S-10, with story

NICE!

The Mazda B3000 we bought last November is not that nice, is a standard cab, and has a bed cover instead of the cap. But we needed 4WD.

Great buy, glad you got it, love the story.

Re: Stalled, no start, towed, shop can't duplicate, I'm ma

So when the problem occurred, the starter motor would engage and turn the crank, but the engine would not fire and run?

I hate that.

Happened to my wife some years ago driving my non-GM car. Had to be towed. Was the PCM, it had a leaking capacitor that had fizzled some connections, killing the ...

Re: Control arm questions

Wrenching can be difficult sometimes...

If you can't figure a way to set up the tool to press or pull it out, then the options are:

Cut it out (think sawzall)

Burn it out (torchify)

Drill it out (holes in the rubber until Swiss cheese)

Chisel it out (air chisel preferred)

Or, any combination ...

Amazing how the tunnel train transports people and cars between the UK and the Continent... Beats a ferry by any measure.

Re: Hard to explain steering issue

There are (Proprietary) terms among the engineering and testing staffs of the car companies for the on-center/near center feeling of the steering. Those are used to describe the torque (or lack of) required to cross in and out of that middle area where little actual response from the steered wheels ...

Re: Replacing Rear Sway Bar Links

Nicely done.

And to think that some people take their cars to places which swap out shocks and all kinds of other parts, when simple end links will cure the jumping around felt after a non-symmetrical jolt. Or, when a car is making a knocking or bumping sound underneath....

2 problems with a ...
