Re: Two Bonnies - One Bonnie = Sad
Yeah, I know. I did really want a G8, but who has them? I looked at specs and performance across mid- and small- sided car and BOTH sucked! I drove at a Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla, and Subaru Impreza and just could not come up with a better money for value than the Mazda 3, sGT (2.5l). If only ...

Two Bonnies - One Bonnie = Sad
Its a sad day for me, but I sold Clyde (2004 GXP) due to too much engine work that I couldn't do myself. He had an oil leak that led to a massive splotch on my garage floor. I just didn't have the time to fix the problem. Bonnie (a 1996 SSE) had TWO top end rebuilds (the notorious oil-antifreeze ...

Re: disabled DRL
I am personally ambivalent on them. I don't think they really promote safety as much as they are touted to, probably a little, but I also hate the way they look. I disabled them on the GXP, left them on in the Highlander, and the Sentra, well, the Sentra is lucky to have lights at all.

Re: When do you call it quits?
Answer: When the cost to keep the car running and insured (a) is more than the monthly car payment and insurance of the car I would buy to replace it (b).
As long as b is significantly greater than a, you will lose money. Keep in mind that I don't view cars as an investment (something to buy only ...

Re: I smell coolant
When you do that, know that the Northstar calls for (3) GM coolant tabs, if I remember right, to be installed in the lower radiator hose because gaskets in the Northstar never seal right and GM's answer was installing their version of a stop-leak tablet into the coolant system. Look it up first ...

Re: Worth buying GXP Bonneville?
I love mine, but baby it so have had relatively few problems. IT is much better as a highway car than town, esp. fuel economy wise.
I agree that fixing it is a PITA. I tried to replace the serpentine belt, which I have done on every car I have ever owned. I gave up on the GXP. In that regard ...

Re: bonnie becomming a classic
Just my 2c. RepinS is correct.
A few things go into making a car a "classic". Please know that this doesn't mean that Bonnevilles of any vintage aren't great cars, they are. But being a "classic" is different.
Usually, the car needs to have a strong youth myth around it. Think Mustang, Camaro ...

Any movement toward a Pittsburgh/SW PA/No WV/ Eastern OH meet? Now that the holidays are near I could easily justify a drive to Pgh or some place close.

Did you put new overlays on the GTO gauges as well or is it a cluster from a different year? I noticed the font shift in the numbers.

If you are correct, then there really is NO reason to have ON-STAR if you have a cell.
Very interesting. And glad I never activated it in the GXP.

So really, there is NO need for On-Star if you have a cell. I thought it was satellite based.

Re: "check tire pressure" message
I have often had the "check tire pressure" warning go off when I spin on gravel. The tire pressure monitor does not actually measure tire pressure. It measures the "spin" of all four tires. If one is spinning slower (usually, sometimes faster, but I'm not completely sure of this) it sets off the ...

1. What are the pros and cons of subscribing to ONSTAR?
2. Do you have to have a subscription to use a verizon phone integration?
3. Are there lights in the trunk lid or just on the tail light corners. (My old 97 ssei lit up across the back).

Re: To trade in or sell privately?
While trading the car in may seem like the easier option, you will not get a good price on it. The mod list will not translate into a higher trade in dollar amount...so if you trade in, you are giving up everything you put into the car and accepting the wholesale book value of the car as built ...
