1996 Bonneville sudden Oil pressure loss.
Hey Guys, I have a 1996 3.8L Bonneville. I was driving and the oil pressure just dropped out and the engine started to make a loud tapping/rattling. I am trying to get to what happened. So far I dropped the oil pan but did not discover any metal pieces. My next guess is I was going to try getting to ...

Re: 1996 3.8L Pontiac Bonneville
The coolant sat there for maybe a couple days, until I realized what happened and then dumped the oil, coolant, removed plugs and made the fix, followed by 2 oil changes.

Re: 1996 3.8L Pontiac Bonneville
It was kind of sudden, the drop in oil press. and the noise. Before the noise it was running perfect. I changed oil twice after I did the intake job. I could not get to the car this week, but first thing I will do is drain the oil and drop the pan. Is there any possibility the pickup screen could be ...

Re: Oil pressure sensor leak
Thanks for the advice on the size socket. Changed it out today and leak is gone. Only problem was the place I bought the sensor from I had also picked up a special socket for the sensor. It was a K-D socket, except that even though the socket was 27mm, it bottomed out and I could not use it. A 27MM ...

Re: Oil pressure sensor leak
I will let you know tomorrow. The car is at my workplace. I am going to try and get there in the early AM and replace the sensor. Could not get a good look at it. I will find out what shape it is in when I remove it. The engine oil poured out of it like a faucet when engine was running. I saw a few ...

Re: p0171 1996 Bonneville
Thanks, i will erase the history code and wait till sometime next wk and take car for inspection. I doubt their comp. will pick up an erased history code. The car runs graet and i want to keep for awhile. The only other problem is that it can be a gashog. While changing out UIM and LIM I found ...

Re: p0171 1996 Bonneville
its New Jersey, besides having the highest taxes and most crowded roads they are also a pain in the ass about CEL. No matter what the light is on for they will fail you regardless.

Re: p0171 1996 Bonneville
will the history code go away or do I still need to turn off? I am not sure if the state insp. will fail a car for the history code. If I erase history code do you think the car still needs to run another drive cycle after that. I still have another month or so for reinspection. Thanks for the ...

Re: p0171 1996 Bonneville
not yet, I was hoping the computer would run a drive cycle and delete it. I can erase it myself but i thought the comp. would delete it from memory. This way i woukld know for sure it is ready for inspection. Do you think it may be a stored code. The actron reader does not give you much info. thanks ...

p0171 1996 Bonneville
Hey guys, my check engine light went off. It was reading the p0171 code. I found a crimped and cracked vacuum line and replaced it. I was ready to take the car back thru state inspection but when I checked the OBD2 with the actron code reader the p0171 code was still there even though the CEL was ...
