Whats it worth

97 SE SC 185K, new struts all the way around, new ps pump, new brake lines and fuel lines, replaced one of the injectors for the good news. Bad news......starting to leak from LIM gaskets and the SC is starting to make some noise. The Tran still shifts great and there is little rust. Just looking to ...

Good Bonny mechanic in chicago area

I need to have someone look at my 97 SC SE for a tune up and some advice on whether to stick more $$ into it or not. Anyone know of a good safe mechanic in the chicago area who knows and likes these cars as much as us??? I have redone the struts, power steering pump, brakes, brake lines and fuel ...

Traction control sound

When I get some wheel slip on wet pavement I am getting @ 4 seconds of a "whirring" sound coming from the right front brake. Is this from a blown bearing?? Any pointers?

Also, is there somewhere on this site that shows the OBD codes? I am going to Autozone to get a scan done.

oil pressure

I think this may have been covered before, but, my oil pressure is reading up near 120 when driving, but comes down to 40 when idling. Is this a problem or do I need a new sensor??? Also, does running Mobil 1 have something to do with this?

1997 SE w SC ??

My catalytic converter is blown, what should I replace it with. The muffler went out @ a month ago and I had it replaced with a universal one to save cash until I can afford a better one......probably a mistake.

Charging issue, don't know squat about electricity

My voltmeter reads about 12 when I am idling with the AC on. If I turn on a blinker, the needle pulses with the blinks. Is that a sign of needing a new battery (the one in the car is probably @ 5 years old), or is it the alternator? When I had problems with my older Tbird, I took it to Autozone and ...

Re: Ok, talk me into it

Just remember, most loans are going to be @ $300 per month. You can do a lot of fixing up for three months of car payments and still have a car that will last you another year or more??

Re: Squeal

I took her in to Bartlett tire. They installed the rotors I had bought, fixed the break line and a bad rear cylinder, and did some other things for @ $300. This included replacing some broken bolts. Still is making the squeal. The new rotors made a big difference in braking. no more shimmy :beerchug:

Chitown meeting

Anyone on the site want to do an informal meeting around Chicago??? I used to work for Hooters in Downers Grove that would be somewhat central. How would a Thursday night work? There is another car club that usually meets there then, it would kind of cool to kick some tires with some other car ...

Re: Broke caliper bolt

I think it broke before the threads because the head turns but i cannot see the bolt turning in the small gap. I think it may be smart to take it to a shop. Or do you think that it is possible to get the caliper off. I didnt try the second bolt because I didnt want to snap that one also. Then, on ...

Broke caliper bolt

What can one do when the first caliper bolt breaks? I was going to change the rotors on my 97 that had some shimmy in them. I looked at the link for replacing hubs and figured that just taking off the calipers and putting on the new rotors would be easy. The first 3/8 bolt snapped. What are my ...

Thanks all. I think I will replace the rotors. Not a huge investment for good returns.

Squeal

I have a constant squeal that is pretty quiet unless I am coasting to a stop @ 5 MPH coming from the front. Any suggestions?? Hopefully not a bearing. I might try a lube job, not sure of the last time that was done. (Bought the car 2 weeks ago.) Also, the car sat for most of the winter and pulsates ...

I live in Streamwood. I will post pics of the car and the window sticker so we know what I have. I will have to get to know the jargon. It is kind of like hearing a policeman talk........ ;)

Yes, it came with the 1SD package.

There is quite a bit of difference in the shifting in performance mode ...

New to forum and owning a Bonny.

Hello to all of you out there. I purchased a 97 SE (SC'd) last week to replace my 95 LeSabre that has been GREAT to me for 5 years. (Not bad for $600). I really love the car, just put new struts all the way around to replace what I think were the originals with 180K on them. I really hope the ...
