misfire can be almosta anything, a cam position sensor, egr or head exhaust valve burnt. can also be missing magnet from the cam sensor. been there done that. engine quesses the cam position if it does not get value ...

similar issues. sometimes does not crank- just like dead, 2nd try fires right up.
last year there was a blown main fuse on Instrument panel right hand side "maxi"-fuses.
could the remote batteries have anything to do with this...going right now to buy new "2016" batteries to it

i replaced both front struts with monroe quicks- ...i had replaced the mounts earlier. Do them at same time if they are original!
You might need new mounts, depends if the front struts hesitates in turns. i thought for thousands miles that my brake drags. but it was mount that did not return.

Re: BRING BACK PONTIAC
i would say last bigger fuzz about pontiac over here was the "lunar" transsport minivan of early 90s. it was like moon car, and sold really well, with chryslers voyager. still many around.
enthusiasts dig the firehawks of course... but those were not super-sellers

Re: No heat
clean the core. you need to do it from small hole under the main relay center in engine compartment.
spray brake cleaner on the core and rinse with water. note that water will go to co-drivers legroom.

i had similar symptoms- fault was a blown FUSE at right side relay center.
so check the fuses ALSO near the cars brain center (PCM).

if it backfires, that hints it gets spark atleast a bit, so it might be with fuel or with ignition control module at "distribrutor"
