Re: Just found a tuner claiming to support ALL years of the

I just had the transmission fully rebuilt, so tuning is on hold for a while. The car is running REALLY good right now so I'm happier with it. Not sure why but it just randomly tuned itself in and pulls hard. It's faster than my GTP was in every way now. I wasn't so sure at the beginning.

Did you ...

Re: Just found a tuner claiming to support ALL years of the

So how did the tuning turn out?

I always thought the worst problem with the GXP was the gearing was too short for the power curve of the engine. As soon as it would get moving, you could feel the timing being retarded and everything getting flat. That gearing works much better in the STS.

Re: Head stud question

That's news to me... my understanding was that some block material came out when removing the head bolts, but I don't think that means they were actually stripping or would have stripped down the road. Studding at that point would have been the best option.

I'll dig up the emails I have from him ...

Re: Head stud question

Actually, Jake told me the studs and head gasket were about to fail, which is another reason he did it. So of it hadn't have dropped a valve, it would have needed head gaskets soon enough. As far as dealing with Jake and Northstar Performance (same thing!) that was an ....... Interesting experience ...

Re: FY: Poll on who's got the "highway shimmy"

Nope.
Had a good highway run last night. About 5 hours on the road, and no vibration. Actually made about 25 mpg on that trip too. :)

well defiantly keep it in the club :beerchug:
Don't know if anyone in the club is interested.

But it would be nice if it ended up here.

The other car is the wifes van. Likely the best and most reliable vehicle I have owned.

Plus, I have to start planning for car#3. If all goes well, I will be planning on a B5 Blue 6MT Challenger SRT8 next summer! :D

Re: Help 05 GXP tranny not engaging

About the only thing I would recommend is keeping your fluid/filter clean and changed regularly. I know you posted somewhere that yours has >80k on the odometer. I would hesitate to do a power flushing at this time as you may actually dislodge some debris that'll cause more problems down the road ...

Re: Help 05 GXP tranny not engaging

Continuing on the tranny rebuild thought (not for me right now, just in general), is there anything that should or could be done to a 4T80 to improve it? Higher stall convertors? Better or stronger internal parts? Any mods?

Re: A couple of pics of my GXP...

Well as long as you get a G8 GXP as a company car, I could see your reasoning for selling the Bonnie, but since that won't happen I hope you can figure out a way to keep it (or at least keep in the Bonneville family)! That was a nice ride I took in it back in the spring. Gotta love that V8 groan ...

Re: Help 05 GXP tranny not engaging

Sorry for the delay guys, I just returned from vacation and picked up my car. My guy droped the trans and replaced the torque converter and trans axle assy. He had 15 hours labor and $343.50 in parts for a total of $1782.11 including the tow. The car runs great, I am so glad I pulled it from the ...

Actually, it is more a matter of the accountants figuring out the best way to handle things.

I can afford to keep it. The car is paid off, so not an issue that way. Just have to see what makes the most sense.
