Re: 1997 old 88 hessitation while driving.

The computer throws no codes. the computer has been altered to not show some codes like egr, rear 02 and missfire. im going to try and swap in an oem computer if the fuel pump checks out. This car did sit for a long time before i bought it. Im hoping the fuel pump sock is plugged up and causing fuel ...

Re: 1997 old 88 hessitation while driving.

I went and drove the car yesterday because of the warmer weather to see if anything changed and it still bogs way down. I tried shaking wiring to the maf sensor and i checked the engine over again. Im wondering if i need to run a stock pcm to identify codes correctly.

Re: 1997 old 88 hessitation while driving.

IIRC the fuel pressure was 45 psi at idle and easily went over 50 when throttled. It does have a newer fuel pump...not that that means anything.

1997 old 88 hessitation while driving.

Guys I need help.

The olds has been running like a champ since ive rebuilt the engine, but lately, since the harsh cold set in, it has had a hessitation under normal driving. WOT is fine.

List of things I have done

New:

-ignition module
-plugs/wires
-coils
-motorvac fuel injection ...

Re: replacing piston rings..3800 series 2 is it worth it??

Just went throught a similar dilema with my l36. It had one spun bearing and I figured that replacing the bearings would be enough on a motor with 86k miles.

Here is what ended up happening:

Bored .020 over
New rings, pistons
polished crank
milled heads
s1x cam
on
and
on

its almost too ...

Re: Transmission shudders at 50mph

Glad to see that the car is back in buisness. Wish I had the same luck back when I went through this. BTW Human, you said your dad worked for olds? Does he maybe still have a hookup for olds bodyparts from the late 90's? let me know and we can start a new thread.

Re: Transmission shudders at 50mph

In my olds 88 i originally started out with a rolling surging. after the transmission was rebuilt it then had a shudder. I went through the entire engine and ignition system trying (wishing) that it wasn't yet another transmission problem. turns out that the updates were never done to the valve body ...

Re: Transmission shudders at 50mph

It was stated that adding transmission fluid changed the symptoms slightly. This, along with the speed noted caught my eye as something ive had to fix on two of my 4t60 transmissions. My bonneville even had a newer goodwrench transmission with all updates "supposedly" done. I really hope for the ...

Re: Transmission shudders at 50mph

I think 95% would be a bit much to say. if the missfire is strong enough to cause shudder/surge symptoms. the SES light would immediatly flash. Granted a transmission problem will only be amplified by a missfire. The car must be tuned up and all p ms' done in order to complete this diagnosis. There ...

Re: Transmission shudders at 50mph

This Is most likely a problem with the torque converter and/or valve body. No Additive or "placebo" will fix anything IMO. If a transmission is acting up that means that some component is malfunctioning and needs to be fixed. I had a similar problem with my olds 88 (same transmission). The issue is ...

Re: THE HEADER THREAD

My engine bay is essentially a bonneville. So will the supercharged 3.8 headers work on my n/a 3.8??? My new cam is crying for them!!! (and the tires are crying for me not to get them  )

Thanks for the help, this is a pretty darn informative topic

Re: 97 olds 88 rebuild complete!!!

Just rolled over 300 miles on the new engine yesterday.

Runs like a champ and the oil had no visible metal shavings in it. i did a check over on all the fluids and made sure there were no leaks. Im going to change the oil again at about 600 miles and switch over to synthetic. Im still shopping for ...

Re: 97 olds 88 rebuild complete!!!

what headers do you recommend??? im having a hard time feeling the 800$ price tag of the ones ive seen so far. going down the road.....the engine is smooth as ever. at idle is the only place where it will bump a little. i dont see much of a loss by chucking the balance shaft. according to the ...
