Re: how a lean condition kills engine - po171

Had the same code in my 2000 SSEi. Mass air flow sensor was the culprit.
Replaced the MAF and the code disappeared.

Re: Cadillac 3800 Swap?

4T80 doesn't fit the 3800. Most of the stuff you need like the radiator, condenser, etc. needs to come from a '00 up Bonneville.
The 99 Bonne trans will need the side cover switched to an aluminum one so the side mount can be used.
You'll also have some wiring compatibility issues as the 99 trans ...

Glassweld. We use it at work for headlamp restorations.
Not cheap but it lasts

My guess is you're gonna need a new set of rod bearings soon.

Re: Cadillac 3800 Swap?

During my junkyard runs for a breather that would fit the Seville and 3800, I found that the Deville was much closer in match to the Bonneville. A/C lines route the same so I don't think the condenser would need replaced. The accumulator is in the same place also. On the Seville, I had to move the ...

Re: Cadillac 3800 Swap?

My Caddy is a 2000. It's a SLS.
The wires for the fuse box side; I just moved them from the Bonne plastic insulator
to the Caddy insulator so I could mount the insulator into the bottom of the fuse box.
The wires went into the same slots that they came out of. I did have connector pinouts
for both ...

Oh, and I used a 2001 SSEi harness. I imagine '00-'03 would work.

Re: Cadillac 3800 Swap?

Thanks everyone.
94silverSSEI, I had to change the insulator for the engine harness to match the Caddy
fuse box. One had the bolt in the insulator, the other one the nut that mounts it. I was
able to make the car run and drive after just switching the insulator(moving the wires).
There is wiring ...

Re: Cadillac 3800 Swap?

Sorry for bringing up an old post. But I just had to reply to this.
I have done this swap, at minimal cost. I did it all myself.
I already had the donor car for the engine/trans/PCM so my total
cost was around 500 bucks. This was new hoses, radiator, condenser
and salvage yard stuff like the ...

Re: The horrible demise of my '00 SSEI

Thanks for all the input and well wishes.

I only had liability on the car. Excluding a few interior parts I kept (cluster, radio) and the
300 dollars I got for scrap, it was a total loss. Just couldn't stand to look at it anymore.

The 97 SE was my driver prior to this car. It's now my driver ...

The horrible demise of my '00 SSEI

I don't come on here much but I wanted to share the sad story of my SSEI.

I bought this car last May with 170k miles. Paid 630 dollars for it. The trans was broken at the mount. I replaced the trans and then proceeded to repair all the little problems over the next 11 months. Replaced the missing ...

Takes roughly 90# for a cylinder to fire. 60 is certainly an issue.

Is the coolant overflow hose from the radiator really soft/flimsy?
If so, you may have a broken trans cooler inside the radiator.

Sounds to me like corrosion in the positive battery connection at the battery. In between the two cables.
