The 17" Bonneville SLE/SSEi wheels do fit on the GXP. They are a 7.5" width whereas the GXP wheels are 8" wide. I do have wheels available if you're interested. You could run a 225 width tire, maybe even 215.
I've run 215/55 on the 6 spoke SSEi wheels. It can be tough to get to bead on the rim ...

Re: GM coolant elbow O-ring melted in one month. Why?
Thanks, will do that if the elbow leaks again, this time through the black RTV I slathered on. I started researching O-ring technology and there is a lot there to learn. It seems like making an O-ring that is only exposed to a maximum of about 250 degrees fahrenheit of coolant temperature and not ...

You need a scan tool to see what your upstream o2 sensor is doing. If it's reading an incorrect voltage, then your fuel mixture will be too lean or too rich. The vehicle will run poorly if the upstream o2 is malfunctioning.

Re: Guess this leak...
Probably the oil pressure sender, which is a known painpoint in these cars.
That's what I am thinking it is. Is this a simple remove old sensor and replace with new sensor deal?
The part seems cheap enough to DIY: https://www.partsgeek.com/1plxb66-pontiac-bonneville-oil-pressure-sender.html ...

How'd the exhaust smell? Any smoke? Does the car consume coolant? Has the intake manifold gasket been replaced at any point?
It's a shot in the dark but intake gaskets are a bit notorious on these. Wonder if you burnt off some coolant upon starting and then it cleared up. A leakdown test could ...

Thank you.
Any advice on brands of trans jacks to avoid or to buy?
I can't see my regular jack working to hoist the trans into place.
I had the trans supported to the subframe both when dropping it out and reinstalling. I used 2 regular floor jacks myself and with it being mounted to the ...

get the car jacked up high and remove the trans + subframe as an assembly out the bottom. That would be the approach whether on a lift or in the driveway.

Re: Restoring Door Window Reveal
Every 00+ bonneville, given enough time in the sun, will have their beltline trim degrade and split. It's not worth trying to find a replacement from a donor car, they're all going to do this sooner or later.

Figure I'd share a pic. Picked up the GXP reflector and taillamps from the junkyard for $175 for all three pieces. They're not perfect but certainly a massive improvement

Andrew -- do you have any info about getting the external seal to sit right? Is it just a case of loosening up the torx on the glass panel and adjusting while the sunroof is in the down position?

Re: Re-Built transmission slipping again in less than a year
I can only speak for myself:
I've had 4 of these cars.
-- 3 of them had hard shifts after long drives (typical line pressure compensation crap) and/or slippage starting at before 100k
-- 1 of them blew the trans at ~165k (busted forward band)
Color me not impressed with the 4t65(or HD). The trans ...

Re: Re-Built transmission slipping again in less than a year
Given the longevity of the 4t65 even under babied conditions, I don't think this is the most advisable path. It's too much work to install another question mark.Archon wrote:Another option to consider is a good used transmission.

I did this job in the driveway with jackstands. It was only a couple hour project.

ABS
Brake line, trans line and power steering line brackets

GXP taillights can be installed.
There isn't and will never be an aftermarket support of this type of thing for these cars. Their time of popularity has already passed; you hardly see these on the roads anymore.

My take is that the P1404 is entirely unrelated.
Being an intermittent problem makes this more challenging but I would start by checking that you're getting spark when the car is not starting. If you're unsure of how to do this, there are plenty of youtube videos of how to do so with just a ...

P1404 shouldn't cause a no start situation.
What was the vehicle doing when you were trying to start.. was it cranking but not starting? or no crank?
